When they don’t know who else to call, they can call 2-1-1.
2-1-1 is a hotline that connects people in need to the services that can help. The hotline is free, anonymous and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A highly-trained information and referral specialist listens to each person’s needs and connects them with the right community organization or government agency. This includes needs such as food, housing, child care, crisis counseling or substance abuse treatment.
Annually, millions of Texans use 2-1-1, or the Texas Information and Referral Network (TIRN). You can see data about the needs we address at TX.211Counts.org. United Way of Tarrant County partners with United Way Houston to provide this service locally, as one of 25 Area Information Centers (AICs) across the state supported by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
