It will be a red carpet evening March 27 as the United Way Women’s Leadership Council holds its Annual Celebration at the Trinity River Campus of Tarrant County College. This year’s event will feature the premiere screening of “Texas Trailblazers,” a salute to three iconic North Texas women:
Erma Johnson Hadley, Chancellor, Tarrant County College District
Kael Alford, Award-Winning Journalist and SMU Adjunct Professor
Liz Cedillo-Pereira, Dallas Immigration Attorney
The 30-minute KERA documentary will be followed by a panel discussion with the trailblazers themselves. The discussion will be moderated by Sylvia Komatsu, KERA Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer.
The audience will also hear from a United Way Women’s Fund scholarship recipient. $15,500 in grants from the Fund to the Tarrant County College Foundation has helped low-income women further their education. Almost $23,000 in grants to Camp Fire has enabled women working in child care centers to receive advanced training and earn their Child Development Associate credentials.
The WLC Annual Celebration will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception, followed by the program at 6:00.
For more information about the event, contact Carolyn Phillips at 817-258-8165 or Carolyn.Phillips@unitedwaytarrant.org.
The 2014 Annual Celebration is presented in partnership with KERA and Tarrant County College. Event supporters are Blossoms on the Bricks, Julie Shaffer Photography, Rental Spot and Weaver.
