United Way Worldwide President and CEO Brian Gallagher issued the following statement Feb. 3 reaffirming the organization’s values in the wake of recent events:
“In light of current events and changes to U.S. policies, Americans and people around the world have had to confront their beliefs, values and convictions on human rights. For United Way, there is no question. For 130 years, we have fought for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community. In nearly 1,800 communities across more than 40 countries and territories, we have been—and always will be—committed to equal rights, tolerance, and diversity of all people.
“United Way’s efforts positively impact more than 50 million lives each year. We can do this because our organization has spent more than a century developing deep roots and trust in the communities we serve. That will never change. Now, more than ever, it is important that our society stand up for every person in every community.”
