“Volunteers are the key to our success!” That was the theme of the May 9 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon honoring United Way volunteers at Joe T. Garcia’s in Fort Worth.
Reflecting the event’s theme, two special awards were presented to “key” volunteers.
TD Auto Finance was presented with the Key Corporate Volunteer Award. As part of its United Way campaign last fall, the company completed four weeks of community service projects and other activities. The schedule included “lunch and learn” events and hands-on projects at some United Way community partners. For example, TD Auto Finance employees set up and organized the GRACE Christmas Cottage and worked in the Community Enrichment Center food pantry. More recently, they made improvements in the community garden at 6 Stones. The award was accepted by Rob Blanton, head of TD Auto Finance Collections.
Tim Neathery, Program Administration Manager at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, was honored with the Key Individual Volunteer Award. Tim is volunteer coordinator of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Golf Tournament, which benefits the United Way campaign. Tim devotes 120 to 160 hours each year soliciting tournament sponsorships. Since he became involved with the annual event in 2007, it has raised $1,048,000. Of that amount, $948,000 has been raised since Tim was named tournament coordinator in 2009.
Tim Madigan, author and award-winning Star-Telegram journalist, was guest speaker at the appreciation luncheon. He talked about his friendship with the late Fred Rogers of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and the power of being a compassionate helper and friend to other people.
