For decades, United Ways across the country have joined with the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) to serve union families and their communities.
In fact, the Trades Assembly (forerunner of the current Tarrant County Central Labor Council) helped form the Fort Worth Community Chest (forerunner of United Way of Tarrant County) in 1922.
United Way’s Pauline Ramos, Vice President of Labor Participation works full time as the AFL-CIO community services liaison.
- Helping establish community services, committees and more
- Conducting educational programs, food drives, blood drives and more
- Coordinating labor’s participation in the annual United Way campaign
- Coordinating the Union Counselor Training Program – counselors help union members and their families with problems ranging from substance abuse and health concerns to Workers Compensation and unemployment
