The Compassion Abounds: Fort Worth Hunger Project was a big success May 9 as four shifts of volunteers convened on Wilkerson-Greines Athletic Center in Fort Worth to assemble packages of a nutritious lentil casserole for hungry children and their families in Texas, Mexico and Zambia.
170 people registered to volunteer for the event from United Way, and some were there when the first shift began (above). Some of United Way’s partner agencies also provided other volunteers. All totaled, 1,400 volunteers donated their time and packaged 301,124 meals, surpassing the goal of 300,000 meals.
United Way and other members of the Compassionate Fort Worth Stewardship Committee, along with Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price’s Faith Leaders Cabinet and the nonprofit organization Feeding Children Everywhere, sponsor the Fort Worth Hunger Project.
