“I love books and helping kids and I believe that helping kids to read gives them a great start in life.”
-Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the children’s book distribution program that United Way brought to Tarrant County eight years ago, has now provided more than 122,000 free books to area children! Much of the credit goes to United Way’s partner, Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, which has been a strong supporter and funder of the program locally since 2008.

Established by recording artist Dolly Parton, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is an international program that mails free books monthly to the homes of enrolled children from birth to age 5 to encourage a love of reading and foster future school success. Local children who begin the program at birth can accumulate 60 free books, beginning with “The Little Engine That Could” and ending with “Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten.” Some books are available in Spanish.

United Way of Tarrant County offers the program where there is the greatest need. It currently includes 23 ZIP codes that touch 11 Tarrant County communities. United Way provided start-up funds, administers the program locally and enrolls children. Workforce Solutions generously contributes $50,000 annually to support the program.

United Way offers the program in areas where there is the greatest need. Anyone who lives in one of these ZIP codes may participate in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Sign up online at (Click the link below and select “REGISTER MY CHILD”.)
