Day of Action Yields More Than $10,300 in School Supplies for College-Bound Young Women

Above, from left, Development Director Amy Rasor and CEO Jennifer Limas of Girls Incorporated of Tarrant County, and United Way Volunteer Engagement Manager Felicia Lafuente with 58 backpacks donated for 58 college-bound young women from Girls Inc. as part of United Way’s 2014 Day of Action project. More than $10,300 worth of school supplies were donated and purchased with cash contributions. Boxes of notebooks, pens, binders and other items poured in, along with flash drives, restaurant gift cards, towels, laundry baskets and other supplies. Even some “wish list” items such as a laptop and printers were contributed by generous donors.

Members of the United Way Young Leaders Society (below) organized the many contributions on United Way’s Day of Action in June. They also wrote notes of encouragement to the 58 young women from Girls Incorporated who are headed for college, many of whom are the first in their families to do so.
