United Way of Tarrant County is collecting donated school supplies through June 20 to assist 58 college-bound members of partner agency Girls Incorporated. Fifteen of the young women will be the first in their families to attend college, and among those 15, five are the first family members to graduate high school too.
Items such as flash drives, backpacks, reams of paper, gas gift cards, pens, notebooks and highlighters can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the United Way office in Fort Worth at 1500 N. Main, Suite 200. Other items on the college wish list are laptops and printers. Donations of money to purchase school supplies can be made online through June 19 Volunteers will assemble the supplies for the college-bound young women on June 21, United Way’s annual Day of Action.
Education is one of United Way’s three areas of focus. United Way of Tarrant County’s 10-year education goal is to help 8,000 area students at risk of dropping out of school to graduate on time by 2020.
