April is National Volunteer Month, so it was fitting that more than 170 BNSF Industrial Products Department employees spent April 19 volunteering at multiple United Way partner agencies. At the Presbyterian Night Shelter, some painted high and low in a two-story room while others prepped mountains of vegetables and deboned boiled turkeys that were destined for soup. Some volunteers took to the great outdoors. Weeding and mulching were on the to-do lists at Catholic Charities’ Urban Manor, the Salvation Army Mabee Center and the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Butler Branch.
Older adults at the Forest Hill Senior Center put out the welcome mat for the volunteers, who visited with them, served lunch and gave out gift bags of food. Back in Fort Worth, Team BNSF helped put together 7,200 meals at the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
With hard-working volunteers like those from BNSF and dozens of other area companies, it’s not surprising that in 2014-2015 more than 4,700 United Way volunteers invested more than 31,000 hours in community service valued at almost $776,000. United Way salutes you, volunteers!
