City / County United Way Challenge

Mayor Price & Judge Whitley Ride Main Street for United Way

It was good fun--and good exercise--when Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley and Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price settled a friendly bet in Sundance Square recently. The city and county had agreed to a contest to see which organization's employees could raise more money per capita in support of the United Way campaign. United Way President and CEO Tim McKinney announced that the city had won the wager, meaning Judge Whitley had to put pedal to the metal and give Mayor Price a ride down Main Street in a bike taxi.

The city's total of more than $171,000 averaged $27.22 donated per employee. The county's total of more than $75,000 averaged $17.05 per capita. Tim McKinney noted that even though the county came up short in the contest, it raised 64 percent more money than last year. United Way sincerely thanks everyone at the city and county for their generous support of the United Way campaign.
