United Way’s Northeast Tarrant County office works with volunteers and human service professionals to strengthen communities in the region. They evaluate the area’s needs and bring together relevant partners to address them. Early childhood development and the social isolation of older adults are current priorities.

Champions for Seniors
Working with the Northeast Leadership Forum, United Way – Northeast is encouraging city governments, businesses and others to reduce the isolation of older adults by adopting senior-friendly practices. Those following United Way – Northeast’s recommendations are designated “Champions for Seniors.”
Early Learning
United Way-Northeast and its partners are working to increase school readiness. At the Academy at West Birdville in Haltom City, for example, events such as Math Night and Reading Night have provided learning opportunities and given parents the confidence to help their children prepare for success in school.
HEB Transit
This two-year-old transportation service helps low-income residents of Hurst, Euless and Bedford get to work, job training and human service agencies. Started with $25,000 from United Way and administered by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, it provided 1,800 rides during the first year and doubled that number the second year.
