There have been a few letters to the editor in the Star-Telegram recently that have responded to an op-ed piece that was written by E.R. Bills regarding the work habits of the employees of Lockheed Martin. I would like to throw in my two cents’ worth. I grew up in Fort Worth and through the years have seen flying overhead the products of the “Bomber Plant” out west including the B-36, B-58, F-111, F-16 and the F-22.

All of these planes were outstanding and were and are mainstays in the air defense of our country. They were and are being assembled by an outstanding workforce that means so much to our economy. The workers at Lockheed Martin are rightfully proud of their contribution to our nation’s defense as well as their contribution to the economy of North Texas.

The contributions and volunteerism of the employees of Lockheed Martin and its predecessor companies to our community during the past six decades have surpassed those of any other corporation during this period of time. The United Way of Tarrant County is indeed very grateful for all that Lockheed Martin and its employees do for our community. It is an outstanding company that employs outstanding employees.
